Nick Bodman report

Hola! My name is Nick Bodman. I am 14 years old and in year 10. Because I have taken Spanish as a subject for the last two years, I had the opportunity to go to Spain for two weeks with my school in April. I went with 12 other students and two teachers. Thanks to APODC I got a scholarship towards the trip. This helped me a lot as the trip was quite expensive.

We went to many amazing places such as Madrid, Toledo and Seville. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. We stayed in homestays with families who did not speak English, so I had to use a sort of sign language to communicate with them as well as using my Spanish skills. Similar to deaf people who have to use sign-language. Sign Language is used everywhere!

Every day we would meet at a meeting point with the rest of the group (because we were all in different homestays) and do activities around Spain. We travelled to loads of incredible ancient buildings such as the Alhambra. The experience was awesome, especially trying multiple different foods. We were taught how to make paella and a Spanish-type potato fritter.

While I was over there many memories were made. My favourite place was the Real Madrid Football Club Stadium, which is the second richest club in the world. We weren’t allowed on the grass but went into the stadium and it was enormous. Inside they had heaps of memorabilia like T-shirts and shorts from all the different players. I saw David Beckham’s boots!

APODC’s generosity towards the trip made it exceptionally better for me. I would like to thank the APODC committee once again for the scholarship.
